Ford Kuga drivers fear for their kids' lives as cases pile up, says journo

At least 47 Ford Kuga's have reportedly set fire, with the most recent incident allegedly taking place over the weekend.

It is claimed that 11 Kuga's have burst into flames since the start of the year.

Reshall Jimmy was killed in December 2015 when his Ford Kuga caught alight and his family and other drivers have been seeking justice since.

Times senior reporter Graeme Hosken explains that a number of Kuga models are implicated, not only the 1.6 litre Ecoboost.

Hosken reports that, as early as 2014, Ford received complaints from insurance companies and fire investigators.

It's alleged that Discovery insure also raised concerns with them last year, but Ford did not take action or notify Kuga owners, he explains.

According to Hosken, Ford blamed it on problems with the Kuga's coolant system, yet some drivers with replaced coolant systems still had their vehicles catch fire.

The motoring company has also said it has run out of vehicle parts, urging drivers to set their cars aside in the meantime.

Meanwhile, Kuga drivers are fearing for the safety of their families.

It's a family vehicle (SUV), and lot's of people use it to transport their kids to school.
