Medical students leaving SA to study in China

Dr Irshaad Saley, CEO of Student Alliance and Medical Practitioner speaks to Redi Tlhabi about his experience when applying to South African medical schools, and why he studied in China. His organisation is now helping others do the same.

When I finished matric, myself and my younger brother, even though we had decent matric results - I had like four distinctions - but even though we applied to all the universities in South Africa, we only got letters of regret.

Saley explains the limitations on being accepted in South African medical schools. He acknowledges South Africa is one of the best places to study medicine, yet says we have a shortage of doctors.

His organisation helps all levels of arranging applications to overseas medical schools and the logistics involved in their overseas stay in China.
