Why Hlaudi Motsoeneng wasn't called to testify at SABC's inquiry

Parliament's ad hoc committee will reconvene on Thursday after concluding its hearings into the SABC board last week.

As the committee prepares to compile a draft report after the inquiry, many have questioned why former COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng was not called to testify.

Vincent Smith, Chairperson of parliament’s ad hoc committee on SABC says the team unanimously agreed not to call Motsoeneng.

Smith explains that Motsoeneng was not called because he was never a board member.

Our mandate was to answer whether the board was fit and proper, Hlaudi Motsoeneng was not a member of the board.

At the same time, two court challenges had ruled that Motsoeneng was not allowed at the SABC, pending internal disciplinary processes.

According to Smith, the public hearings were a positive indicator for Parliament, democracy and public service.
