Cape Town tourism rakes in impressive numbers over festive season

CEO of Cape Town Tourism, Enver Duminy says 2016 was a good year for the Cape's tourism sector.

He says Cape Town airport received over 84 000 arrivals, a 29% increase from the previous year.

In cases where the festive season figures were slightly lower, the local attractions recorded good annual figures which reflects growth from 2015.

That is significant especially after a bad year we had in 2015...

The airport has reached another milestone. They have managed to process, serve and support over 10 million passengers for the full year of 2016.

That is significant because it says we are a world class destination.

December 2016 arrivals breakdown:

Domestic arrivals = 398,245 (3% increase)

Regional arrivals = 8,795 (1% decrease)

International arrivals = 84,493 (29% increase)

Total arrivals = 522,659 (8% increase)
