Planet Earth II filmmaker zooms in on wildlife on Earth

The hit documentary series Planet Earth is making a comeback and promises to be even more gripping.

Planet Earth II is a 6-part series which was filmed over the course of three years in more than 117 locations spread over 40 countries to show how wildlife survive and thrive in various environments.

Film producer Dr Fredi Devas shares his behind the scenes experiences of capturing the spine-chilling wildlife footage, from filming New York's peregrine falcon to Gray langur's in India.

He says the series focuses on how animals overcome the challenges of living in the most crowded environment on the planet.

There are some animals that are doing surprisingly well in cities just because the habitat mimics the habitat they evolved in.

As wildlife filmmakers we are observing the natural world, not interfering with it.

Devas explored wildlife displacement, the evolution of filming technology, editing, ethics and shooting conditions and techniques.

Planet Earth II will be starting on Sunday 5th February 2017 at 4pm on BBC Earth (DStv Channel 184).
