The Gauteng Education Department is facing challenges with placing students into schools.
EWN reporter, Victor Magwedze says the department is currently under tremendous pressure to place the students.
Magwedze was attending a press conference where MEC for Education in Gauteng was giving an update with regards to school placements.
Lesufi said more than 12 000 new students arrived at the department's walk-in centres that have been placed in various communities to apply for enrollment. He expressed his disappointment at this high number of parents who waited until the last minute to apply.

The department has managed to reduce the number of unplaced pupils from 58 000 to 7 000 but now they are faced with more than 12 000 new applicants.
Lesufi said he doesn't understand why parents would leave their children's applications until the last minute.
