Newly qualified doctors turn down health department posts - Motsoaledi

Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, briefed the media on the employment status of doctors and newly qualified pharmacists in South Africa.

EWN reporter Gia Niccolaides atended the press conference and says the minister explained some of the challenges the department is facing when placing newly qualified doctors.

He says that these doctors want to be placed in the four big cities ( Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Pretoria)

He said that of the 1499 applications received, only one person was not placed due to ethical issues.

He said that applicants are declining the placements.

He said the reasons vary from marriage, family, medical conditions, property, locations etc
