How Mzansi Magic has enchanted South African TV viewers

If you check local Twitter trends on any given evening, chances are the topics will include characters or shows featured on hit entertainment channel Mzansi Magic.

From Isibaya and Rockville to Saints and Sinners and Lock Down, the channel produces quality content with excellent production value.

Despite being the new player in the TV landscape, the channel has produced some of the most gripping reality shows such as Utatako, Our Perfect Wedding and Date My Family.

Writer and editor Lesley Mofokeng says the channel has ability to uniquely document South African life, surpassing SABC 1 as the number one local storyteller on screen.

Mofokeng advises that Mzansi Magic does not rely on celebrity casting, but instead uses ordinary people to make their stories accessible and relatable.

Mzansi Magic has re-written the rules of television production and making.
