Police watchdog completes raid at Phahlane's home amid corruption probe

Investigators from police watchdog Ipid are done searching the Pretoria home of acting National Police Commissioner Khomotso Phahlane.

Phahlane is alleged to have accepted illicit payments for securing tenders when he was the head of forensics at Saps in 2014, reports EWN's Barry Bateman.

It's alleged that he was taking kickbacks in order to secure tenders for a company which supplies chemicals to the forensics division.

A chemical company is alleged to have paid Phahlane money to secure tenders to the value of R100 million, Bateman explains.

Ipid secured the search warrant to inspect his house in the north of Pretoria.

Investigators also obtained a warning statement from Phahlane on Thursday morning in a case of allegedly defeating the ends of justice, he explains.

The case was opened during the period in which vindicated Ipid boss Robert Mcbride was suspended, and Bateman says it's believed the investigation has been put back on the table since his return.
