CAPE TOWN – A Cradock farmer in the Eastern Cape says he's baffled by the furore that erupted over him transporting a woman in a sheep's pen in the back of his bakkie.
Twenty-seven-year-old Linda Senekal, who is reportedly four months pregnant, caught a lift with Johan Erasmus.
Erasmus has told Eyewitness News that she opted to sit there.
He says he's received threats of violence after social media outcry, but he maintains there's nothing wrong with transporting a woman in the holding pen.
“I did what I thought was right at that stage. I’ve received eight threats that my house is going to be burn down and my bakkie is going to be stolen. All I did was give a woman a lift to town.”
Meanwhile, in a Facebook video, a woman is seen to be coaxing Senekal into telling her side of the story.
“I asked for a lift from the farmer and he gave it to me. He asked me if I wanted to sit in front and I said no it’s too hot and I’d rather sit in the back.”
