Transport Minister Dipuo Peters announced that driving lessons will be incorporated into the schools curriculum through a partnership between the Road Traffic Infringement Agency and the Department of Basic Education.
Spokesperson to Minister Dipou Peters, Ishmael Mnisi, says they have already consulted with Education Minister Angie Motshekga.
We were still dealing with the nitty gritty of how it should be done and whether there should be a merit or demerit system for this kind of initiative.— Ishmael Mnisi, spokesperson to Transport Minister Dipou Peters
The Road Traffic Management Corporation and the Road Traffic Infringement Agency are already planning to implement this by providing the driver's simulator's programme for the 2017/18 period, says Mnisi.
The learners will be given an opportunity to develop and enhance their skills to become good and safe drivers.— Ishmael Mnisi, Spokesperson to Transport Minister Dipou Peters
