Gifted father and son shine while continuing musical legacy of Masote family

The talented Masote family are best known for their contribution to South Africa's music industry.

Kutlwano Masote and Pendo Masote are the gifted descendants of Michael Masote, one of the country's most celebrated classical musical conductor and educators.

Michael's (76) son Kutlwano is an acclaimed musical conductor and cellist who brought into the world the third generation of talent, Pendo (13).

Pendo Masote is a passionate violin player who has just joined the National Youth Orchestra this year as the youngest musician.

Kutlwano and Pendo open up about the advancement of classical music in South Africa, and their bloodline of musical artists and activists.

Kutlwano grew up in a vibrant classical music environment and eventually took up the cello at the age of eleven, and he says he is excited to see Pendo's bright future unfold.

It's been great to see it through my own life and even more amazing to be part of Pendo's journey as he embarks on what we hope will be an interesting and eventful music career.
