Talk Radio 702, Sunday Times and Huffington Post became targets of fake Twitter accounts this weekend. A number of false posts emerged with inaccurate and misleading information.
Media Monitoring Africa head of policy, Thandi Smith, says this is very dangerous because some people may be misled.

But there is also responsibility on media themselves to try and assist their audiences, alerting their customers on the potential of that danger.— Thandi Smith, Media Monitoring Africa head of policy
Smith says they are currently monitoring ten fake news sites using names similar to credible news organisations.
She says there are fake news sites with names close to that of Times Live and Eyewitness News.
