Grace Bible Church defends homophobic sermon, says everyone is welcome

JOHANNESBURG - The Grace Bible Church says it welcomes gay people and never discriminated against homosexuals.

The church has come under fire on social media after radio and TV personality Somizi Mhlongo voiced his anger about homophobic comments at the church in Soweto on Sunday.

Bishop Dag Heward-Mills can be seen in a YouTube clip of the sermon, calling homosexuality 'unnatural'.

“Like homosexuality, you don’t have male and male. If you use that reasoning, homosexuality is not natural. You don’t find two male dogs, two male lions, two male impala’s, two male cats, two male elephants, there is nothing like that in nature.”

But acting on behalf of the church, Pastor Ezekiel Mathole says this is not true.

“He responded to a lot of things so the whole sermon by itself was very provocative for a lot of people so it was not only for gay people. The same way that gay people don’t like certain things that Christians do, we respect their views and we respect any other person’s views.”
