East Rand restaurant doesn't allow gay couples on 'date night'

Eyewitness News reports that an East Rand restaurant, the Lake Restaurant in Brakpan, refused to allow access two of its reporters posing as a gay couple who booked and paid for 'date night', which is held every Thursday.

The restaurant said allowing the same-sex couple access would contravene their policy for the evening.

The station manager at Gay SA Radio, Hendrik Baird, says the Human Rights Commission has not done enough to investigate people who make homophobic comments and bring them to justice.

Hendrik says people cannot be allowed to say whatever they please about homosexuality and hide behind religion.

I do think in general there has been a shift. It's slow, but then you get these homophobic statements...and you despair that people are never going to learn and grow with the rest of society.

Hendrik Baird, station manager at Gay SA Radio

Meanwhile, Grace Bible Church came under fire following Bishop Dag Heward-Mills's homophobic comments, labelling being gay as 'unnatural'.

“Like homosexuality, you don’t have male and male. If you use that reasoning, homosexuality is not natural. You don’t find two male dogs, two male lions, two male impala’s, two male cats, two male elephants, there is nothing like that in nature.”

Bishop Dag Heward-Mills

The church spokesperson Pastor Ezekiel Mathole said the church welcomes gay people but does not support same sex relationships.
