Parliament to begin appointing SABC interim board

Parliament’s Communications Committee has placed on the agenda the process of appointing five interim board members.

EWN's Gaye Davis says the chairperson of the committee Humphrey Maxegwana outlined the criteria required for board members.

They want people with legal background, broadcasting experience, expertise in human rights, human resources and cooperate governance. Not all necessarily in one person, but a board with those set of skills.

The committee has decided that political parties should come up with a list of names and chief whips will meet to find consensus.

Meanwhile, the parliamentary ad hoc committee looking into the SABC is currently preparing its final report, following explosive hearings on a number of misconduct allegations in the public broadcaster.

The committee has asked its legal support team to prepare a list of people who may have misled or lied to Parliament when giving testimony.
