Ipid investigates Phahlane's six luxury vehicles

Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) is now investigating how Acting National Police Commissioner Khomotso Phahlane bought and financed at least six of his cars over the last three years.

EWN reporter following the story, Barry Bateman, says a Land Rover Discovery, Range Rover Sport, VW Amarok and Toyota Hilux are among the cars registered to Phahlane.

Bateman says a car dealer in the North of Pretoria has claimed that he bought the Hilux bakkie for Phahlane to use in community projects.

In an affidavit seen by EWN the car dealer says Phahlane accepted the offer and the agreement was that he would use the vehicle for 18 months.

The man says he did not gain anything from the deal but had hoped to go into business with Phahlane in the future.

When contacted by EWN, Phahlane’s spokesperson Sally de Beer said this is an attempt to defame and humiliate the acting national police commissioner.

Last week Ipid searched Phahlane's house in connection to his R80 000 sound system at his Pretoria home.

The probed followed allegations that the supplier of chemicals used in forensic work when Phahlane was the head of forensic services, transferred money to a supplier who installed the sound system at his house.

Phahlane said he paid for the sound system from his own personal account.
