Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma's simply did not do her job as AU chair - analyst
The African Union Commission will appoint a new leadership team for the African Union as Nkozana Dlamini-Zuma's term as chairperson comes to an end.
Former chair of Nigeria's National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Anselm Odinkalu says Dlamini-Zuma failed to do her job.
Odinkalu says no one can show evidence of any work done or achievements during her tenure.
She was always in South Africa and not willing to do her job.Chidi Anselm Odinkalu, former chair of Nigeria's National Human Rights Commission
If you accept a job, you must be prepared and willing to do it. She did not go to Addis to run the AU, she went to Addis to run a campaign to be a South African President.Chidi Anselm Odinkalu, former chair of Nigeria's National Human Rights Commission
Professor of international relations at University of London, Dr Stephen Chan, says Dlamini-Zuma was an utter disaster.
Chan says Dlamini-Zuma failed to reach out to people and address issues facing the continent, such as violence and military governance.
He says Dlamini-Zuma among other things, failed to act on the war in Sudan.
There has been no activist breakthrough on the part of the African Union in terms of that conflict.Dr Stephen Chan, Professor of international relations at University of London
Other former AU leaders never stopped travelling the world trying to put the amount of traction that Africa has.Dr Stephen Chan, Professor of international relations at University of London
Ghanian writer and analyst, Emmanuel Dogbevi, disagrees with Chan and Odinkalu and says Dlamini-Zuma has done well as a woman.
Dogbevi says Dlamini-Zuma was successful in creating a good relationship with the men she worked with.
He says the AU doesn't have the power to enforce its own agenda and conventions on individual African countries.
The AU cannot in some instances go and force the country to obey some of the rules it set for itself. They go to meetings and sign the resolutions, but it's up to an individual country to implement them.Emmanuel Dogbevi, Ghanian writer and analyst
Of course she has failed to solve the problem in South Sudan, and she been unable to resolve the issue in DRC. But look at Nigeria. When was the last time an African President stepped down and hand-over his power after his first term? We saw that happen with Goodluck Jonathan. It was under Zuma's tenure.Emmanuel Dogbevi, Ghanian writer and analyst
She tried to make the AU financially independent.Emmanuel Dogbevi, Ghanian writer and analyst
By setting up the high-level panel against illicit financial flows in Africa, that has done very well because losing so much money for Africa is huge loss looking at how much that affects the GDP in terms comparing it to how much Africa could save and invest in its own development.Emmanuel Dogbevi, Ghanian writer and analyst
Mrs Zuma has set the high level panel headed by Thabo Mbeki to ensure that Africa does not continue to lose that amount of money.Emmanuel Dogbevi, Ghanian writer and analyst
Chan disputes Dogbevi's analysis. He says external donors financed huge operations of the AU.
Dlamini-Zuma was criticised by former President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari for failing to raise the amount of financial input from Africa itself. She may have kept it operational but she did not make it self-sufficient.Dr Stephen Chan, Professor of international relations at University of London
