Millennial trends maven Siya Beyile on building style empire, The Threaded Man

At just 23-years-old, Siyabonga 'Siya' Beyile is a man of many talents.

Beyile is the founder of the popular online platform for men's fashion and lifestyle, The Threaded Man, which he says is currently worth R10 million.

In his spare time he is also a stylist, creative director, TV personality and public speaker.

The young Xhosa man has already been recognised on the Forbes list as one of Africa's most influential people under 30.

Beyile says he hates being referred to simply as a blogger, and says there is more depth to his craft as an entrepreneur.

I am not a fashion blogger... The Threaded Man is Africa's largest portal and is bigger than any magazine in this country.

He explains that The Threaded Man is celebrating five years online and employs an editorial team of eight who continually work to bring fresh content and disrupt the industry.

The platform helps men curate their own style by featuring trends and brands that are accessible to a diverse market, he says.

According to Beyile, his platform was created to use fashion as a means to communicate a lifestyle and help men create their own identity through style.

The Threaded Man was inspired by my culture, and by how I want to create and inspire young African men through fashion and clothing.

He praises his mother who always taught him to be proud of his heritage and culture, while also remaining respectful and ambitious.

Growing up my mom always called me "umfana othungiweyo" (threaded man).

He says the data he gathers on his audiences is leveraged for brands and for marketing campaigns and consultancy work.

Beyile opens up about monetising his online business, working with big international brands and gives advice for young black entrepreneurs.

Keep your eyes peeled to The Threaded Man website as they are relaunching the platform in February.
