Trollip refutes Nelson Mandela Bay Metro coalition is crumbling

News reports state that the coalition governing the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro Municipality in the Port Elizabeth area may be on the verge of collapsing.

This after a dispute between Democratic Alliance (DA) Mayor Athol Trollip and his deputy, United Democratic Movement (UDM) councillor Mongameli Bobani.

The Midday Report's Stephen Grootes spoke to Mayor Athol Trollip to find out if there is truth to the reports that the metro coalition is on the verge of collapse.

Trollip says he does not believe so.

Coalition governments are difficult, but also no one individual can collapse a coalition.

He says the coalition agreements were negotiated by all participating parties, and the appointments are beyond reproach to bring stability to the municipality.

The dispute is believed to revolve around the key position of city manager.
