Developments bring in millions to CT

Development in the City is booming as initiatives by private-public partnerships and provincial and government bear fruit.

Rob Kane, chairperson of the Central City Improvement District (CCID) says the City has come a long way over the past 15-years and its inconceivable how much change has happened.

CCID is able to inform developers through the facilitation of ideas to business and banks with our Annual State of the Central City Report which makes it less risky for developers.

Rob Kane, CCID chair

There is a R4,3 billion development on the go and another one proposed. The number of local government and government initiatives, like Artscape which received a R86 million boost... the upgrade of the Master of the High Court building... Tsogo Sun which invested R250 million in it's own hotel and is building two others..

Rob Kane, CCID

Kane says a lot needs to be done to bring affordable housing into the central business district (CBD).

We need more affordable apartments in the City. Young professionals are coming into the city and seeing that they can walk to work and seeing that this is a great environment to be in pretty much 24-hours a day. People are making lifestyle choices by coming into the CBD.
