Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan says claims that he is plotting against the Gupta family make no sense, reports EWN's Stephen Grootes.
This after the Gupta's accused him of conspiring with other business leaders to have their bank accounts closed.
But Gordhan says the Gupta family cannot have asked him for help and then accuse him of running a campaign to close them down at the same time, Grootes explains.
Gordhan applied for a declaratory order confirming he could not interfere in banks’ decisions to cut ties with the controversial family.
In court papers, the finance minister lays out his views, suggesting a politically-motivated campaign.
In truth, what stands revealed is the real plot. The systematic and highly organised campaign by the Gupta family and its associates against the National Treasury, myself and other targets.— An extract from Gordhan's answering affidavits
