Empty stadium seats a long-standing conundrum for PSL, says sports editor

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) Chairman Dr Irvin Khoza has lamented the fact that there are not enough soccer fans attending matches at the stadium.

PSL and broadcaster SuperSport celebrated their 10-year partnership at a gala function in Johannesburg over the weekend.

On average, 250 PSL matches are broadcast live on SuperSport per year, with improved commentators, camera work and production technology.

What new innovations can attract people to the stadium and give diski lovers an 'extra vibe'.

Sports editor for Times Media Group Digital Mninawa Ntloko says the issue of empty seats is not new.

It's been ongoing for many moons now.

He says the broadcasting deal between PSL and SuperSport has changed the landscape of South African football and how it is viewed.

The full fixture list, highlights packages and access to live mid-week matches on DSTv has made it more convenient and comfortable.

Listeners also called in to share their opinions on why football fans don't pitch at the stadium.

Some reasons include poor safety, seating and parking, lack of family-friendliness, excessive drinking, expensive food stalls.
