Gauteng ANCYL to lay murder charges against former Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu

2 February 2017 7:25 AM
ANCYL calls for Premier David Makhura to resign following Health Ombudsman report revealing 94 deaths of Esidimeni patients.

African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in Gauteng says former Gauteng Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu should be held criminally liable for the deaths of 94 psychiatric patients who were transferred by the department to various organisations.

Health Ombudsman Professor Malegapuru Makgoba revealed on Wednesday damning findings about what led to the deaths of patients who were transferred when the department ended its contract with Life Esidimeni Hospital last year.

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has also announced that it will lay criminal charges against Mahlangu.

Among, other things the Ombudsman's report revealed the health department’s poor handling of the transferring of patients. Mahlangu resigned hours before the report was made public.
