A 'lost continent' found underneath the island of Mauritius

A team of geologists led by Wits University Professor Lewis Ashwal has found an unknown continent underneath the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean.

Ashwal says the continent remained unknown until their recent work because it has been buried deep below a very young volcano on the island.

He says they have named the new continent Mauritia to glorify the island of Mauritius where the work was done.
