Chester Williams, Corne Krige share memories of Joost van der Westhuizen

Former Springbok captain Corne Krige and player Chester Williams talk about one of the world's greatest scrum halves who sadly passed away from motor neuron disease on Monday.

The most important thing that gives smiles on South African faces is when he gave that terrific pass to Joel Stransky and we all know the rest is history and we won that World Cup.

Chester Williams, former Springbok

He was one of the greatest scrum halves the world has ever seen. He was the modern day scrum half. In the old days, they were small but he was this modern day freak close to 90 kilos, he could run very fast, break tackle and he was a very physical guy.

Corne Krige, former Springbok captain

Williams and Krige say while he had a very soft side off the field, on the field he turned into a machine.

He absolutely hated losing.

Krige says the lesson to be learned is to live life to the fullest, always compete but also make a difference in other people's lives as he did.
