Competition Commission probes motor industry “approved workshop” requirements

Insurance companies that do not cover repairs at mechanic workshops not on their approved list, has listeners hot under the collar. The Competition Commission is launching an investigation into this issue.

Competition Commissioner Thembinkosi Bonakele spoke to Africa Melane and emphasised that no workshop should have preference over any other in the market.

He says in almost all developed and emerging economies this has been resolved through government regulation.

The Commission has called industry stakeholders together on March 17 to present proposals to the industry as well as government.
