Maimane: EFF actions unwarranted and soldier deployment unjustified #SONA2017

Democratic Alliance (DA) leader, Mmusi Maimane, says he cannot understand why Speaker Baleka Mbete refused a request for a moment of silence for the 94 Life Esidimeni Hospital patients who died after the Gauteng government recklessly and negligently transferred them to unlicensed organisations.

Reflecting on the chaos that emerged in Parliament when President Jacob Zuma was delivering his State of the Nation Address (Sona) yesterday, Maimane says he disagrees with the actions of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

However, he they are pursuing legal action against the deployment of South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and police to Parliament.

Maimane says this made Parliament inaccessible to citizens who may have wanted to come to Parliament for the President's Sona.

We are launching legal action because we are convinced that a deployment of police and SANDF to Parliament is irrational.

Mmusi Maimane, DA leader
