Zuma’s 2007 Polokwane win slowed economic growth to a crawl - Prof Gavin Keeton

The economy prior to 2008 was growing very nicely.

The change in ANC leadership at Polokwane in 2007 marked a switch towards a more interventionist economic role for the government.

This coincided with the global financial crisis and a dramatic slowdown in economic growth.

Growth in SA has never fully recovered.

The ANC's leadership change slowed growth to a crawl, says Gavin Keeton, Professor at the Economics Department at Rhodes University.
