The municipality had been unable to constitute its council and elect office bearers since the councilors were elected in the August 3 local government election.
The IFP formed a loose alliance with the DA and the EFF, holding a one seat majority over an alliance of the ANC and the NFP.
The IFP-led alliance had 18 seats to the 17 of the ANC-led alliance.
If the NFP is fully contesting that municipality, [it's] definitely ... going to be a decider. Currently, if you want to be in government, you need to convince the EFF, DA, the NPF, so hopefully when we contest all wards in that area the NFP can be a decider.
