Bookboon.com provides SA with 600 000 free textbooks a month

The world's largest publisher of electronic books, Bookboon, says South African government and corporate does not give any support to their initiative of providing about 600 000 textbooks a month to students.

Bookboon SA manager, James van der Westhuizen, says they provide access to free textbooks and e-books in key subjects such as engineering, IT, business and finance.

Last year we provided about 8.1 million textbooks to the South African student population.

We probably make a contribution of R2 billion, in terms of savings student costs on textbook.

Treasury has not responded to the call to add academic books to zero-rated goods list, which was raised by Department of Higher Education.
