Ex-cyclone Dineo to hit Limpopo, Mpumalanga overnight - SA Weather Service

The SA Weather Service says ex-Dineo has been squarely over the southern part of Mozambique for the most part of Thursday.

The weather service says despite the downgrade, residents in parts of Limpopo and Mpumalanga can still expect flooding and heavy rains.

The cyclone was downgraded to tropical depression ex-Dineo and lost momentum overnight.

Chief forecaster Kevin Rae says ex-Dineo has remained mostly over the Mozambique's Banhine National Park and that the South African provinces at risk are Limpopo and Mpumalanga.

Looking at the satellite imagery, the bulk of the deep rain clouds are swirling around southern Mozambique and the south eastern corner of Zimbabwe - that's where we feel the heaviest rain will be at the moment.

Kevin Rae, Chief forecaster at SA Weather Service

It's the lowveld and escarpment areas of Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces where we feel there is a really high likelihood of rain overnight.

He explains that there has been a great amount of misinformation regarding the weather system.

According to Rae, adjoining provinces such as Gauteng, Free State and Kwa-Zulu Natal are under no risk.
