SA ready for Cyclone Dineo

17 February 2017 7:59 AM
The SA Weather Service has issued a severe storm and heavy rain warning on the eve of Tropical Storm Dineo's visit through SA.

Cyclone Dineo is expected to affect Limpopo, Mpumalanga and northern KZN and will bring 150 km/h winds and heavy rains of up to 200mm.

The wrath of this storm will mostly affect the Kruger National Park, Enhlanzeni, Vhembe, Mopani and Waterberg district Municipalities.

The rain and wind will affect communities but disaster management plans are in place.

Mmaphaka Tau, head of the National Disaster Management Centre, has called for people to be vigilant, move to higher ground and cooperate with municipality disaster management plans.

In the event that there is flooding or damage to infrastructure our municipalities on the ground have done assessments to identify risk areas and evaluate how evacuation could be executed. We advise people to move to the high ground before the [storm] happens.

Dr Mmaphaka Tau, Deputy DG National Disaster Management Centre, Department of Cooperative Governance
