National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) says students have until February 28 to appeal their declined applications for funding.
NSFAS chairperson, Sizwe Nxasana, says many of the unsuccessful applications were from students who did not understand the Minister of Higher Education's announcement on 'missing middle' and and those disqualified because they have taken longer to finish their qualifications.
He explains that many students misinterpreted Minister Blade Nzimande's decision that the Department of Education will subsidise fee increment for students who families earn between R120 000 and R600 000 a year.
Nxasana says NSFAS is meeting with University of Western Cape and University of Cape Town to address problems raised by students.
