Mantashe: ANC happy with Budget Speech's emphasis on transformation

The ANC says it is pleased with Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan's carefully crafted budget, considering the difficult economic circumstances South Africa faces.

Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan delivered his annual Budget Speech in Parliament on Wednesday.

ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe says the ruling party is particularly happy with the focus on spending for transformation policies.

We are quite happy with the approach and emphasis on transformation.

Mantashe says the budget has focused on investment opportunities for sectors such as mining, agriculture, manufacturing and education.

He spoke about the role of state-owned enterprises, including SAA and the PostBank, and their role in driving the economy.

Mantashe also touched briefly on the tensions between Treasury and Sars.

It's a natural tension (between Treasury and Sars). The day there is a Treasury that is the darling of everybody, you must know that we are on the road to collapse.
