Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba has condemned the violence during what he calls an orchestrated attack at the Johannesburg City Council on Thursday.
Dozens of demonstrators stormed into Joburg's Council Chambers protesting over Mashaba's decision to scrap the Jozi@work program.

Protesters claim they were provoked by the police, who later went on to fire rubber bullets and stun grenades.
EWN's Gia Nicolaides reports that the protesters say they simply wanted to hand over the memorandum to Mashaba, but he refused to appear before them.

Meanwhile, Mashaba released a statement claiming the protest was staged by the ANC.
They believe that this was organised in order to derail council proceedings.— Gia Nicolaides, EWN reporter
The ANC in Joburg responded saying that it is Mashaba's arrogance which led to the situation.
