Police have fired stun grades and rubber bullets to diffuse tensions in central Pretoria.
A group of protesters called the Mamelodi Concerned Residents marched and were joined by people from Atteridgeville, but they later separated because of disagreements.
Officers formed a barrier between two groups of protesting crowds in Marabastad, reports EWN's Barry Bateman.
The group of locals approached the Somali nationals for a confrontation, at which point police officers intervened.

The group of Mamelodi Concerned Residents said it had no intention of attacking Somali nationals who also took to the streets and blamed the acts on people from Atteridgeville.
Meanwhile, Bateman says he has spoken to Somali and Nigerian nationals who say the are also concerned about crime in their area.
