ANC today is a shadow to itself- Lumkile Mondi

Economist and Wits University senior lecturer, Lumkile Mondi, is one of the economists who have congratulated Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan for delivering a budget speech that addressed South Africa's economic problems.

Mondi says Minister has done his best to strengthen Treasury despite factional battles within the African National Congress (ANC).

He says the South African Revenue Services (Sars) capability has been destroyed by those who want to commit fraud and pursue personal agendas at the expense of the people.

There is a war of positions taking place within the ANC. There is a battle for control of public resources. Treasury or Pravin symbolises accountability, progress for all. Not for individuals. He is being seen as an enemy of the ANC and those who want to control those resources.
