SACP: ANC's radical transformation agenda drives black elite interests

Tripartite alliance partner, South African Communist Party (SACP), says it strongly supports the African National Congress's (ANC) call for radical transformation first made in 2012, but says it 'has been given a very shallow meaning and context'.

SACP first deputy secretary, Jeremy Cronin, says the ANC has been very quiet about how they would bring about radical economic transformation until recent factional battles within the party.

Coming from these factional quarters, what is meant by radical transformation is basically advancing the narrow interests of the black elites.

Jeremy Cronin, SACP first deputy secretary

We are saying we need to be careful that under the mask of radicalism what is really being advanced are the narrow interests of a small black elites that is politically connected to families like the Gupta family. There is an apparent African radicalism, but it's not really about the majority of black South Africans.
