We want mayor to guarentee no job loss for Jozi@Work employees - ANC

African National Congress (ANC) in Johannesburg says Mayor Herman Mashaba has failed to give assurance that the 8000 employees under Jozi@Work programme won't loose their jobs.

There have been violent protests against Mashaba, which led him to cancelling his attendance at the opening ceremony of a local clinic in Alexandra earlier this week.

Spokesperson Jodilee Matongo says the ANC is not involved in violent protests and condemns violence and destruction of municipal property.

Matongo says Mashaba only says 'he will employ more people' and doesn't say what will happen to current Jozi@Work employees.

We are not married to the concept Jozi@Work or yellow overalls. All we are asking for from the mayor to do is ensure is that all those 8000 people need to continue to be in the programme whether it's called something else and rebranded.
