19 new stations and 150 km extension for Gautrain

The Gauteng Province is planning to extend the Gautrain route adding more stations and building a link between Lanseria and O.R Tambo airports.

CEO of Gautrain, Jack van der Merwe, says because of the success of the project the provincial government has decided to extend its offerings with an additional 150 kilometres and 19 new stations.

We have now completed a feasibility study and handed it to treasury for authorisation.

According to van der Merwe, construction on the project could start in the next 4 - 5 years and will continue for the next 20 years.

We are looking at running a line from Mamelodi coming down 45 degrees to the west of Johannesburg to Naledi and Soweto...
