Soweto derby must be worth price ticket hike - soccer legend

It is the second round of the Absa Premiership League (PSL) between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

This time Orlando Pirates has a new coach Kjell Jonevret who will be heading the Buccaneers for the second game since he took over last month.

People have raised concerns over Kaizer Chiefs decision to increase ticket prices for the game from R40 to R70.

Breakfast show listeners complained that prices for the Soweto derby are becoming too pricey.

We know that the games are R40, but now you have tickets for R70, R170 and so on. I think it's a rip-off.

Soccer analyst, Marks Maponyane, says Chiefs and Pirates have not been playing a good game for the last few months.

When you want to give me a price, you have got to really put your body on the line. And we have not really seen the two teams putting their bodies on the line.

Marks Maponyane, soccer analyst and former Bafana Bafana striker

PSL spokesman, Lux September, says soccer is one of the cheapest forms of entertainment in the country.

September justifies the price increase, saying football in other countries is way more expensive compared to South Africa.
