Kenzo Abrahams is UWC’s first CERN PhD bursary holder

Kenzo Abrahams is the first student from the University of the Western Cape to obtain the prestigious CERN PhD bursary.

Described as probably the most logical student, Abrahams is currently building his career in nuclear physics.

He worked at iThema LABS in Somerset West for two months before he went to Switzerland to take his place at the world-famous institution which houses the world’s largest and most powerful particle collider in a tunnel 27km in circumference.

He is investigating the conundrum of why nuclei follow a zig-zag of different shapes.

My experiment falls part of a bigger experiment that my supervisor is working on.

PhD Physics student, Kenzo Abrahams

I have specific nucleus to analyse and then other students in the group also have nuclei and their final result will form part of my project
