Will aquifers be a better solution to Cape's water problems?

There's been a lot of talk about groundwater that flows below the city of cape Town and its mountains. But how do we access this water?

Dale Barrow, Hydrologist and director of Geoss says when thinking about extracting water from the aquifers, it should also know that a lot of underground water is contaminated.

He says in the Cape Flats, the water that everyone is talking about is sitting in the sand that underlines Philippi and Muizenberg and not free flowing.

It would take a little bit of planning and establishing the volume and where they are going to be extracting it and whether do they need to treat the water.

Barrow says the City should be investing in resources and infrastructure to extract the groundwater that can be used.

Groundwater is relatively inexpensive when comparing it to surface water. I think the long term plans of the city are going to require more water to develop industries and infrastructure.
