LISTEN: Oliphant refuses to speak English and CPS reaches deal with Sassa

Net1 and Cash Paymaster Services (CPS) CEO, Serge Belamant, says CPS and the South Africa Social Security Agency (Sassa) have discussed and come to terms regarding a new contract to ensure social grants are paid on the April 1.

The terms were agreed during the meeting, but it's quite obvious that until these terms are written down and signed by both parties, then the deal is not completed.

Serge Belamant, Cash Paymaster Services CEO

I do not see a reason whatsoever why the deal won't be signed by both parties. And I can assure you that we are ready to pay come 1st of April.

Department of Social Development spokesperson, Lumka Oliphant, refused to speak in English with Xolani Gwala during a scheduled interview. In January, she had an hour-long interview with Eusebius McKaiser following her Facebook rant defending her boss, Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini, over reports that she was drunk at a party event. She conducted the entire interview in English.

Speaking in Zulu, Oliphant said she cannot speak on behalf of Treasury on whether it will approve the deal between Sassa and CPS.

Twitter folk were quick to react quickly to the incident.

Listen to her interaction with Xolani Gwala here as well as CPS and their Sassa agreement...

702 stands by its decision to end the interview.
