SCOPA: Minister and others benefit from CPS/Sassa deal

Scopa (Standing Committee on Public Accounts) chair, Themba Godi, speaks to breakfast host, Kieno Kammies, about irregular expenditure surrounding the Cash Paymaster Services (CPS) and Sassa (SA Social Security Agency) agreement. Social Development Minister, Bathabile Dlamini, has been criticised for her inaction on the matter.

The Constitutional Court ruled this agreement as illegal and invalid leaving the payment of over 70 million grants uncertain.

R360 million irregular expenditure related to the CPS. The Minister requested for us not to go into the details and wanted to give us a full briefing . The distribution of grants was nowhere ready.

Themba Godi, Scopa

When we tried to pull the pieces together, it was not a question of incompetence, but a deliberate move to create a crisis so that CPS can continue..

Themba Godi, Scopa

There are people around the Minister, if not the Minister herself, who benefit from the CPS deal..

Sunday Times reporter Qaanitah Hunter also spoke to Kieno Kammies about the Minister dragging her feet on what she planned to do to resolve the social grant payment crisis.
