Cape Town City responds 2 months late to water leak on top 100 water users list

The City of Cape Town named and shamed the top 100 water guzzling streets in the CIty.

Now it has come to light that the City failed to respond to the delay in fixing a persistent leak on Canal Road after a resident logged the incident almost two months ago with the water services department.

Dicky from Wetton called into Kieno Kammies show on Friday to complain about the leak.

Canal road has been listed on the city’s top 100 list of water wasters at number 39 with 251 000 litres consumed in a month.

Mayco member for Informal Settlements, Water and Waste Services Xanthea Limberg, explained that Dicky's complaint was channelled to the wrong office and so fell through the cracks.

We do apologise form our side, I understand that Dicky’s call was captured… it ended up in the back office and ended up in the wrong depot and that has resulted in the multiple delays.

Xanthea Limberg, CT’s mayoral committee member for corporate services and compliance

She insists 90% of these reported leaks do get fixed timeously.

Limberg added that Dicky can apply for a rebate on his water bill.

Meanwhile Dicky remains on a list of top 100 water wasters...
