World Naked Bike Ride comes to Cape Town

The Cape Town edition of the World Naked Bike Ride returns to the City this weekend.

The annual world wide bike ride is aimed at highlighting the vulnerability of cyclists, as well as the benefits derived from cycling.

Cyclists will take to the streets either starkers or partially naked in protest against the increased use of cars around the world.

Vancouver social activist Conrad Schmidt explains the history behind the event and why it has gained momentum beyond the activism.

Believe it or not I am not a nudist but the truth is, it's quite a fun event.

Vancouver Social Activist, Conrad Schmidt

Part of the motivation of the event is about an international protest against consumerism in car culture. To get a message out there that we need to get away from our obsession with automobiles and endless cycle of buying stuff that ends up in a landfill.
