"#Xenophobia" is trending in second place in South Africa as of 2.30pm. Durban's city centre is at a stand still as shops are being looted and police firing rubber bullets at a mob attacking foreign-owned shops on West Street. A group of 2000 foreign nationals armed with sticks and pangas barricaded Point Road in an attempt to fight back.
At least five people have been killed since the start of attacks on foreign nationals. Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba is currently in talks with KZN Premier Senzo Mchunu and African diplomats.
