Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba reiterates he welcomes foreign nationals

On Tuesday, Johannesburg Mayor, Herman Mashaba met with Nigerian Ambassador to South Africa, Goldwin Adama to discuss the violence against foreign nationals living in South Africa.

Herman Mashaba has been recently accused of fueling the violence with his earlier comments saying that illegal immigrants are linked to criminal activities in the city.

Tony Taverna-Turison, spokesperson for Herman Mashaba, joined Stephen Grootes on the Midday Report saying the meeting between Mashaba and Adama was an important and long overdue meeting.

He said the Mayor had the opportunity to clarify his past comments and work together to find a long lasting solution.

We still need to ensure that people are in this country lawfully.
